School's Reopening!

Hello Millennians,

School will reopen on Mon 12 Jan 2009. Students are free to come to school before that for self study/usage of school library, etc, but do take note that you must be in full school uniform.

1. Dress Code/Haircut – By now all of you are already very familiar with the Institute’s dress code rules and regulations, and hence, strict compliance is mandatory. So, boys, you are to have a neat haircut, and girls (those with shoulder length hair) to have their hair neatly tied up. No form of hair colouring (except to natural colour) or bleaching is allowed. No colourful shoes (with coloured laces, etc) please. Only the approved colours set out in the Student Handbook are allowed. Students who come to school in violation of any of the Institute’s dress code will be sent home immediately.

2. Travel Plans Update – If you had travelled overseas esp to any flu affected country and have any of the following symptoms, please see a doctor and keep your HT informed.

· Cough (dry or productive)
· Sore throat
· Fever greater than 38°C
· Difficulty breathing
· Diarrhea
· Runny nose
· Headache
· Malaise
· Muscle aches

Also, please make reference to 2 earlier e-mails we had sent out via MI Link on 21 Oct and 4 Dec 2008 on “SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AGAINST AVIAN FLU” for necessary compliance.

3. Return (or relocation) of Bukit Batok Secondary School (BBSS) from Toh Tuck Terrace to their original location at Bukit Batok West Ave 8 – Now, how does this affect us?

i. You can expect more crowding and usage of bus services by our students (and staff of course). We have updated SBS and SMRT on the relocation of BBSS and we hope SBS and SMRT will take our suggestions seriously to help all of us (including BBSS and PEPS). Now, not only that. We can also expect an increase of normal traffic volume because there may be private cars, taxis, etc. coming this way to drop off BBSS students. Can expect longer jams, queues etc at traffic light junctions. So, it would be good to start earlier to avoid traffic snarl. This applies especially to those of you who are coming in by Taxis or are being dropped off by parents.

ii. Be extra careful and exercise personal safety and security esp at crowded locations – MRT stations, Bus Interchanges, even inside the trains and buses.

4. New canteen Vendor for Millennia Institute - We will have a new canteen vendor for our school from Jan 2009 onwards. The company is Gourmet Tuckshop and Cafeteria Services. They have been awarded the contract for 2 years. The company is a reputable one with school canteen experience in many schools.

5. New Furniture at “Good News Café” and student study areas – The Café vendor has brought in new furniture at the Café dining area for staff and students (behind the HOD staff room). These single square tables with black cushion tubular chairs are impressive and can be easily rearranged for more members to sit.

Please note: Consuming of food and drinks are only allowed at tables at the Café areas. Strictly no consuming of food at study tables in front of Staff Room and Library.

Save Yourself!

As we all know, H1 passes isn't really signifcant in PU1 Promotional criteria, however it might save your butt if you're at th borderline kinda position. So in this perspective, H1 or rather Gp, becomes important.

Majority of us didn't do relatively well for th timed assignments and as we all know, this is included as part of our overall Gp Promo results. Therefore if you guys have th driving spirit to pass or score better grades for Gp you may do this at your own free will.

1. Choose 1 qns frm th timed assignment worksheet.
2. Thr's 12 qns in a paper, one qns' done for time assignment so you've got 11 other qns to choose from, familiar?
3. Just rmbr to write th qns down on th piece of essay you're handing in (:
4. Submit to Mr Andrew by Thurs, 25 Sept 08.
5. Tht's three days after your Gp paper.
6. Put in th effort and this might bring th slight but significant difference in your Gp combined grades. From th man himself, really!

So you in or you out? I'm out but i encourage you guys to do this :D :D :D

Lastly, Mr Andrew has gone through a vast variety of questions with us but we've not really gone in depth for Comparison Questions. Okay i can imagine blurr faces now.... A good example of tht kinda qns would be th recent timed assignment tht was returned to us, "Do you agree that youth have more problems than adults?" We've yet to really disect this kinda qns so it's advised tht you do not attempt it for exams. But thn again, if you want to it's okay it'll be just fine. There'll be no casualties, suit yourself :D

I still cannot connect my fone to th computer and i have srsly no idea on an alternative way. This sucks and i bet all of u are down to be as grumpy as me already. I shall reinstall th software tht connects my fone to th computer once i get my hands on th disc which apparently got stolen from my room. Everything's missing in my room! My phone refuses to connect to th computer and thus pics of th gp powerpoint would be posted up late. Sorry for th inconvenience caused but yeah.. Promise you guys tht it would be up by Sunday, 14 September 2008, 4pm.

Adding up to tht, i'm like a handicap using a comp cause my mouse got stolen. Moving on....

Assembly – PU 1 will be at 9.00 am (PU2 & 3 at 7.50am)

Weather – The weather these few days have been very unpredictable, and at times it rains heavily. So, keep an umbrella with you.

Traffic situation – Being the first day of school for T4 island wide, you can expect an increase in traffic volume, slow vehicles, congestion etc. So, plan to come in early to avoid the anxiety and frustration of being caught in slow traffic.

Congratulations everyone :D MI Mart was a humongous success!

Cheers to th effort of th Econs Clan. And of course special thanks to th Non-Econs Clan for helping out while patronising our booth. You guys did great :D :D :DWith all th shouting/screaming in a super humorous way, sitting on th floor 'begging', pushing th 'stolen' cart all ard, randomly approaching strangers, awesome price-handling skills, janna's damn pro-ness at hennah, th muscle effort of th guys, distribution of flyers, running ard finding last minute stuffs, difficulty in finding alternative ways to handle our 'missing' stuffs, setting up of booths with poles/rafia strings/ masking tape, just being noisy and entertaining each other throughout th whole event was heart-warming and made it very enjoyable for everyone.

May this serve as a learning experience for us and Econs clan, don't forget th essay we have to do based on this!

Hellohellohello big wave to evryoneeee teehee :D As we all know, part of th class, The almighty Econs Clan would be participating in th MI Mart held at Plaza Singapura on 2nd August, Saturdayy (: Th purpose of this shoutout is to hope tht we can receive your helping hand! Your contributions would mean a megawatt smile for us. Anw, a friend in need is a friend indeed isn't it? Woohoo! Thr's two ways you can render your support. Monetary wise (we need revenue for flyers, posters, stall decorations, etc...) &/or By Donating us second-hand clothings! Good conditioned + no stench stuffs shall fit th bill! Anw, here's th breakdown of what you can donate to us....

1. Blouses/Shirts... (of all ages!)
2. Pants/Shorts... (of all ages!)
3. Accesories... (preferably, bracelets/bangles, etc...)
4. Hair Accesories... (head bands, cutey clips, etc...)
5. Scarves... (of all widths & lengths!)

You get the idea! Everything tht can be worn on your body is literally clothings! Just donate everything tht you feel like throwing away, to ussss!! To avoid severe hassle, you guys can slowly collect and slowly bring th items everyday till th end of th next week (: Now you know wht to do after you read this post, go and ask ervyone ard you!! Relatives/ friends/ maids everyone tht you think might have a cupboard full of unused clothings and bring those items to us!

A Reason To Flaunt!

Hey :D On (this coming) Monday, 21st July everyone's permitted to wear their ethnic costumes to school in comemoration of Racial Harmony Day 2008! It's highly encouraged so... Do come to school wearing pretty costumes alright :D However, thr's always a guideline for us to follow. Here goes th no-no's! Heed my advice, and stay by th rule!

Okay sorry you guys for leaving this blog infested with dusts and spiderwebs and whatnots ahem alright anyway updates from th MI Link :D :D :D (it's kind of a wee bit late but ohwell...)

2008 GCE A Level Listening Comprehension Examination on 17/7
Students taking the Chinese 8201/9242/8633 Listening Comprehension Examination are to report to their respective venues at 2.20 pm.

Students taking the Malay 8635 & Tamil 8637 Listening Comprehension Examination are to report to their respective venues at 4.20 pm.

Please refer to the examination notice board outside the General Office for the assigned venues. For any other queries, you may look for Mr Cheng Ngee Hiang or Ms Low Wai-Peng.

Temperature Taking Exercise

Wed 9 July - Oral Digital Thermometer (ODT) inspection.
Fri 11 July - Actual temperature taking exercise.
All students are required to bring their ODTs to school on 9 and 11 July.
Check ODTs over th weekend.
If faulty, you may purchase from the school's General Office (at $5.00 per ODT).
Stocks are running low thus, first-come-first-serve basis.

Alright people. Monday is YOUTH DAY. Feel no guilt, ignore your conscience when you're not schooling on that day. It's official. Break away from rules and confines if you want to. Leave the bounds of moral constraints and reap all the rewards if applicable.

Parroting Mr Tang's email - (Economic students only) :

In view of the standard of answers for the Mid Year Exams, I need you to prepare essay outlines for BOTH essay questions. We will discuss them in class next TUESDAY. Pls remind your classmates who do not check their emails.
You are also reminded to start sourcing for items to sell on MI Mart (2 August).

To H2 Malay students, there will be a Youth Seminar tomorrow @ TPJC Auditorium. You're not to question the game they play because it's compulsory! Be at the school's bus stop when the morning sun rose, just as it did like yesterday. The dress code will be MI's school uniform. Contact Zahrah for more details.

To sum up, there will be a 'Hair & Uniform' check on Tuesday, 8th July 2008. Guys, shave watever you think is the best. HAHA. Don't end up having a teacher coming to you and say, "Son. Leave it behind. It isn't the place you belong." So, please rise above or 08A5 will fall.

2008 GCE H1 MT ORAL EXAMINATION

Dates: 27th JUNE – 11TH JULY 2008 afternoons
Venue: MULTIPURPOSE HALL

1. An absence from the Oral Exam will result in a ‘X’ grade on your certificate regardless of whether you sit for other components of Mother Tongue.
2. Check the Noticeboard outside the General Office for your name and remember the Date of exam and the Team Number
3. If your name cannot be found please inform HOD of Mother Tongue, Mr Wong Chong Lum, immeadiately.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1. Report to the Hall at 2 PM sharp.
2. You must be in full school uniform.
3. Bring your NRIC.
4. Bring a jacket if you can't withstand the cold.
5. No handphones or other electronic devices allowed. Any electronic devices or unauthorized materials found in possession will be taken to mean that you have dishonest intent. You may be barred from the examination.

Hello 08A5 Readers! Here are some reminders for you to take note of.

Did you travel to any places and didn't state it on the Travel Declaration Form? Please rmbr to udpate it in th General Office when you come back to school for any papers :D
For H2 Malay peeps do rmbr to hand in your Project Work latest by tday, 26 June. You can attach your file at sri_nabilah_basri@moe.edu.sg!
Take note that our Gp Project Work's due-date is on 14th of July 2008! Get it done on time cus i bet no one wants to step on Ms J Gong's toes!

That's about it for the important updates. Almost everyone are done with the exams and let's cross our fingers and hope that we will perform up to self-expectations. Nevertheless, fret not cause this isn't th end of th world for those who felt u did screw up th papers ): Take a deep breath, have faith and buck up for th rest of th nxt semester! Think far and think Promos!

Anyway... On th bright-side (!!) Since we hav a super-mini-short break before school officially resumes... Shall we have some get-tgther before we fully blast our brains burning midninght oil for th next semester? Tell me your views!
